The history of Five Points Post Office is a fascinating journey that reflects the evolution of community connection, particularly in Franklin, TN. This town is home to one of the last privately-owned post offices in the nation, a Contract Postal Unit (CPU). Originally, this post office was the primary mail location for Franklin until a new facility was built in the early 1900s, marking a significant transition in the town's postal services. The building itself, now over 100 years old, is steeped in history and has witnessed countless changes in the community. It faced the threat of closure several times, but thanks to the dedication of the latest owners, Matt and Julie Brown, as well as the entire community of Franklin, it was saved from becoming just another forgotten relic
The new vision for the post office goes beyond mere preservation; Matt and Julie are aiming to revitalize its role in the community by integrating a general store, reminiscent of the early days when CPUs were often part of general stores. This approach not only honors the past but also meets the current needs of Franklin's residents. By returning to this historical model, the Browns are reinforcing the importance of local businesses and community support. Their commitment to serving the citizens of Franklin is evident in their efforts to create a welcoming space where residents can access both mail services and essential goods. This unique blend of history and modern convenience positions the post office as a cornerstone of the community, ensuring that it remains a relevant and cherished institution for years to come.
